about the artist

hello, I'm sofia!!

hi! my name is sofia brock and I’m an artist! I’m from washington state, 19 years old, and currently enrolled as sophomore at santa clara university —majoring in environmental science with a minor in studio arts.

for as long as I can remember, I’ve loved creating art. I started as an expert at splattering blobs of paint at age 4, I dabbled in creating truly awful human-ish figures at age 12, and my 14 year-old self drew countless cringy “realistic” drawings. as I got to high school, the quality of my art slowly began to develop. I thoroughly enjoyed my drawing/painting classes, as well AP art where I explored the connection between nature and emotions. after a short hiatus from art (the post-AP portfolio burnout was crazy), I began painting again! about midway through my freshman year of college, I became super passionate about my work.

over the years I’ve had various people tell me that my art was good -good enough to sell- but it wasn’t until this year that I was convinced. being an artist and a perfectionist often leads me to believe that all of my work isn’t quite good enough and is never finished —a big thing I’ve had to learn to get over. this past spring, I finally decided to create a website to share some of my work.

what inspires the work?

my work is mostly rooted in the natural world (who would've guessed... the environmental science girl likes nature...). I absolutely love to paint florals, trees, and fruit —however I also enjoy working with other themes/ideas.

my absolute favorite medium to use is oil pastels, they create thick/creamy texture that is layered, yet smooth. I love it. I have also always enjoyed using watercolors and colored pencils -but am always open to trying new mediums!

every piece starts with a little bit of research, a photo i’ve taken, and/or often a person in mind who I know would enjoy the piece. from there I sketch the image I want to create in my sketchbook, find a paper/canvas/cardboard/poster to use, grid out my image, then begin to add color!

originals vs. prints?

original pieces are one-of-a-kind works —each handmade by me!

art prints are reproduced from my original photographs and artwork. each print is reviewed before shipping.

as far as pricing goes... I value my work by the amount of time it took to create (usually a LONG process) and how willing I am to part with it (these pieces are my babies). my original art is certainly a higher price range, however, there is the option for more affordable prints/posters.

apparel options?

clothing Items include images from my original work and my logo. I picked a company that has been widely reviewed to have quality clothing and designed each piece to fit my vision. the pieces are shipped directly from the third party, so I don't have have the final look-over for quality control. if there is any issue with clothing quality, please reach out to me at sofiaabrock@gmail.com and I will work to solve your issue. I am so excited to be able to combine my art with clothing (I LOVE clothes), however this is a new process, so bear with me.

quality you can trust.

I care deeply about what arrives at your door. every order —whether it's a print or a one-of-a-kind original— is handled with the same attention. If something isn't right, I'll do my best to make it right. i’m no professional (yet), however I am doing my best to deliver quality pieces!

let's connect!
